The Department of Physics offers competitive research
assistantships ($17,210 for 9 months + non-resident tuition waiver) and teaching
assistantships ($9,903 for 9 months + full tuition waiver) plus summer support
opportunities. Supplemental scholarships of up to $3,000 per annum are also
available to strong candidates.
The Physics graduate program offers broad research
opportunities in gravitational physics and cosmology, experimental and
theoretical surface science and condensed matter physics, femtosecond laser
spectroscopy, nuclear physics, and non-linear dynamics. Special opportunities
exist in the LIGO gravity-wave detector project, and in experimental programs in
superconductivity and magnetism, and in experimental and theoretical programs in
electron microscopy and holography, synchrotron-based infrared spectroscopy,
x-ray and electron diffraction and spectroscopy, and nanostructure
growth. You may request further information about the
Physics graduate program and an application form by e-mailing physgradadmissions@uwm.edu. Or you can use the on-line form and follow the procedures below
to apply.
